Gary's. I appreciate hearing all kinds of views here. Other than a few timmies here, most people here are very insightful :)
steve1961 - July 20, 2012, 10:27 pm
And I agree with you, PV, on many levels and I was expecting at least someone to react the way you did. That is the type of reaction this type of poster usually evokes and I wouldn't want to see you feel obligated to stifle your views anymore than I would
SethMythrax - July 20, 2012, 7:23 pm
tagged with my initials.....
pickleviper - July 20, 2012, 11:57 am
Oh, and the picture is tagged.
pickleviper - July 20, 2012, 11:56 am
I'll say one final thing: I agree on many levels with a lot of things you guys have said. Maybe I overreacted; highly likely in fact. Reality is created by everyone's point of view. I stand by my original view, though: I dislike this poster.
steve1961 - July 20, 2012, 11:43 am
as wringing our hands over it. But an uncomfortable feeling may lead us to do more than just worry about our own discomfort. Charities abound about that help starving children from all over.
steve1961 - July 20, 2012, 11:39 am
I imagine the child is doing better. The pic was probably taken by an aide organization to advertise the problem of starvation in Africa. I look at this poster in a different way as an ironic look at a tragic situation. Laughing helps this child as much
Mooooooooooooooooooo - July 20, 2012, 11:13 am
Comedy is often about shock value. It's not what I'd call a high form of comedy...quite the opposite in fact. But it has it's moments. As long as you don't let this poster colour your opinion of the site, it's all good.
pickleviper - July 20, 2012, 8:19 am
You can defend people's freedom or expression and speech until the cows come home, and rightly so. But sometimes one must ask why someone finds it necessary to say a certain thing to begin with.
pickleviper - July 20, 2012, 8:17 am
You're right, Mooooooooooooooooooo. if you can look beyond the picture and find the words to be amusing, fair enough. My comments are not about censorship, or me being bothered, but the decision to use such a picture for a joke in the first place.
Mooooooooooooooooooo - July 20, 2012, 8:05 am
If we call this joke too far, where does it end? Suddenly we have to censor everything that a member deems "tasteless" or hurts their "feelings".....if the poster bothers you, don't look at it. I can separate the joke from the tragedy, give it a try.
SethMythrax - July 20, 2012, 6:00 am
I was lookin at IMDB, thanx for the name. I was hoping someone would dig it up, I had a brain fart seeing it is 4am here.......

SethMythrax - July 20, 2012, 5:14 am
There was a Movie I recently seen & the Reporter that took this pic was attacked for not helping the Child, he also won an Award & a million dollars for this pic. He killed himself a little later because of this pic. Good movie but cant remember the name.
pickleviper - July 20, 2012, 5:08 am
This isn't a picture posed by models. It is a snapshot of real, total suffering. This kid probably sees/saw more hardship every day of his existence than we do our wholes lives. To joke about it violates something. Is making posters that important?
pickleviper - July 20, 2012, 5:02 am
Picture of vulture waiting for starving, half-dead child to die. Child is probably now actually dead from famine, drought, disease or war. Use said picture as basis of insightful, poignant poster? No, make tasteless joke, instead. That's my problem.
steve1961 - July 20, 2012, 12:05 am
I hate to be Mr. Obvious but if you limit yourself to Motifakes which do not violate someone's idea of human decency then you'll miss out on some very insightful creations.Sometimes when you stare into the abyss, it stares back...

pickleviper - July 19, 2012, 12:37 pm
You have issues, Gary. Luckily they're entertaining issues.
pickleviper - July 19, 2012, 12:35 pm
You can stimulate debate without shattering the bounds of common human decency in my opinion. Although judging from the comments on this poster so far, it certainly seems to help.
GaryO - July 19, 2012, 12:31 pm
‘Lad’???…I’ve just been called lad…a rush of memories….a ’65 chevy….Melody Lamb’s heaving cleavage…..her boyfriend…..’get outta that car, lad’…running…..fast
steve1961 - July 19, 2012, 12:30 pm
Isn't that what great art is all about-removing us from our comfort zones, stimulating debate from within and without? Perhaps this Motifake is disturbing something within your own soul? For good or bad.
pickleviper - July 19, 2012, 12:10 pm
I have no problem with GaryO, steve. He's free to like something which I despise. It is rare for me to actually say anything when something like this displeases me. My comfort zone was breached with extreme prejudice, is all.
pickleviper - July 19, 2012, 12:07 pm
If you need a new soul you can have mine, lad. I rarely use it.
GaryO - July 19, 2012, 12:06 pm

Unfortunately the events in Africa are too soon forgotten because the media doesn't keep it in the spotlight such as events like the Boston bombings. It's been how long?...and still in the media everyday. That's the tragedy.
- April 22, 2013, 1:44 pm
I can do something to try to help stop the conditions in Africa that cause the overwhelming death count (donations of time, necessities, money etc.) I could not do anything to stop the "cause" in Boston.
RetiredUSNChief - April 20, 2013, 8:08 am
Such is human nature. Tragedy is tragedy...but empathy requires personal context, or "perspective".

pickleviper - April 18, 2013, 2:31 pm
There is so much death in the world; thousands die every day for various reasons. When a purposeful act of violence is the cause, though, of course we take greater note. Every death is tragic, it is the means of any death by which we judge its impact.
pickleviper - April 18, 2013, 2:26 pm
(1) Your dog accidently gets hit by a car and killed. Are you sad? Yes. (2) Someone beats your dog to death with a baseball bat. Are you sad? Are you angry? Do you want to know why? Do you want that person to pay? Do you expect justice? Do you care?
CloudchaserS - April 18, 2013, 4:54 am

Krickit - April 17, 2013, 10:35 pm
Seems a simple answer to me. When you describe what happened in Boston you wouldn't use the word accident. In a traffic accident... well there it was.
